Day 1

Hà Giang City → Quản Bạ Heaven Gate → Thẩm Mã Pass → Đồng Văn (145 km)

Depart Hà Giang city and climb through Bắc Sum Pass to Quản Bạ Heaven's Gate. Visit Lùng Tám linen weaving village, conquer Thẩm Mã Pass switchbacks, and explore the H'Mong King's Palace before checking into your hotel in Đồng Văn Old Quarter.

Day 2

Đồng Văn → Mã Pí Lèng Pass → Nho Quế River Canyon → Du Già Waterfall (95 km)

Conquer the legendary Mã Pí Lèng Pass with sweeping vistas into Tu Sản Canyon. Ride through Mậu Duệ and Sa Lý Pass to Du Già. Plunge into Du Già Waterfall and stay in an authentic Tay wooden stilt homestay.

Day 3

Du Già → Hoàng Su Phì Terraces → Thông Nguyên (130 km)

Ride through the remote valleys of Hoàng Su Phì, admiring thousands of cascading rice terraces. Stay with a Red Dao family and soak in a traditional herbal bath.

Day 4

Hoàng Su Phì → Bắc Hà Sunday Market → Sa Pa Fansipan (135 km)

Ride across the high mountain passes to Bắc Hà to explore the colorful tribal market, then climb into the misty alpine town of Sa Pa.

Day 5

Sa Pa → Ô Quy Hồ Pass (Heaven's Gate) → Mù Cang Chải Rice Terraces (140 km)

Conquer the colossal Ô Quy Hồ Pass (Vietnam's longest pass at 2,000m) and ride into Mù Cang Chải — home to the most magnificent rice terraces in the world.

Day 6

Mù Cang Chải → Nghĩa Lộ Valley → Mộc Châu Tea Plateau (180 km)

Ride through the golden valleys of Nghĩa Lộ and climb onto the cool tea plateaus of Mộc Châu. Visit heart-shaped tea hills and hidden H'mong mountain caves.

Day 7

Mộc Châu → Pù Luông Nature Reserve → Ninh Bình (Tam Cốc) (170 km)

Descend through the primary rainforests of Pù Luông Nature Reserve with traditional water wheels, arriving in the limestone karst wonderland of Ninh Bình.

Day 8

Ninh Bình (Tam Cốc Riverboat) → Western Ho Chi Minh Trail → Hương Sơn (160 km)

Board a traditional rowboat through the limestone caves of Tam Cốc ('Ha Long Bay on Land'), then begin riding the historic Ho Chi Minh Highway south to Hương Sơn.

Day 9

Hương Sơn → Truong Son Jungle Highway → Phong Nha Caves (150 km)

Ride along remote jungle stretches of the Ho Chi Minh Highway along the Laos border, arriving in the national park village of Phong Nha.

Day 10

Phong Nha Cave & Paradise Cave Exploration → Dark Cave (50 km)

Explore the colossal stalactite cathedrals of Paradise Cave and take a boat into Phong Nha Cave's subterranean river.

Day 11

Phong Nha → Khe Sanh Combat Base → DMZ & Vịnh Mốc Tunnels → Huế (190 km)

Traverse the historic Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), visiting Khe Sanh combat base, the 17th Parallel Hien Luong Bridge, and the remarkable subterranean civilian bunker city of Vịnh Mốc Tunnels before arriving in imperial Huế.

Day 12

Huế Imperial Citadel → Thien Mu Pagoda → Royal Tombs (40 km)

Tour the UNESCO Imperial Citadel of the Nguyen Emperors, ancient Thien Mu Pagoda, and the opulent royal tomb of King Khai Dinh.

Day 13

Huế → Lăng Cô Bay → Top Gear Hải Vân Pass → Marble Mountains → Hội An (145 km)

Ride along coastal lagoons to Lăng Cô Beach, conquer the breathtaking world-famous Hải Vân Pass ('Pass of Ocean Clouds'), explore Marble Mountains in Da Nang, and roll triumphantly into the lantern-lit UNESCO ancient town of Hội An to celebrate the completion of your 13-day Trans-Vietnam odyssey.
